Territorial Narration and the Discovery of Heritage

Restè

The network project promoted by the San Lorenzo Parish of Rodello unfolds through the municipalities of Diano d'Alba, Montelupo, and Rodello, straddling the Upper and Lower Langa, nature and community.

Resté is a story, an immersion in the Langa, not just a simple touristic visit, but a journey with its characters and places, with its community. A journey accompanied by the figure of Count Carlo Francesco Rangone, an 18th-century architect and intellectual, the prologue of the narrative.

Resté is a plural narrative of the territory, which on one hand aims to enhance the existing hiking routes and on the other hand, initiates a new circuit and a new way of experiencing the existing heritage. By networking the places (the architectures of Rangone and the landmarks present in the three municipalities) and the tourism actors in the area, the economic activities, and cultural promoters.

Resté is landscape, shaped by the wise hand of man over time, a physical and cultural landscape at the base of the UNESCO candidacy. A polycentric landscape that takes shape through a shared proposal that provides various keys to access the territory.

Resté is nature, activities to be carried out outdoors along hiking trails at a slow pace in symbiosis with the surrounding environment, respecting it. An initiative aimed at raising awareness on environmental issues by proposing a responsible and sustainable approach towards our planet.

Resté is a focus on the existing situation, the challenges and the possibilities that this area experiences from the perspective of touristic enjoyment. A complementary initiative to the activities and offerings of the nearby Barolo Langa and the area of Alba, envisioning an expansion of the tourist area and an enhancement of the offerings to the project area for sustainable development of the entire region.

Resté highlights the cultural and natural strengths of the area: the landscape and the architectures, the history and the many micro-stories of these places, the farming tradition, and the gastronomic experience. Strengthening the entire sector and benefiting the territory in a broader sense.

Resté is a journey that begins with the initiative proposed by the Parish of Rodello through the three municipalities of Diano d'Alba, Montelupo Albese, and Rodello, starting from the existing heritage and the enhancement and recovery projects already initiated by the project partners. The itinerary begins on one hand with the PRIMA project, a cultural heritage conservation and maintenance project conducted by the Parish of Rodello, and on the other hand with the initiative of Langa del Sole, a recovery and enhancement initiative that involved 19 municipalities through the funding of the CRC Foundation (FARO Call).

Resté represents a continuity with the operations carried out over time by the proponents that aims to take an additional step, promoting new practices of use and management, enhancement, and narration, implementing the recovery work done with a fundamental piece: communication and shared promotion of this territory.

Resté is a staging that involves significant actors from the world of culture, among them Lucy on culture – a hub and multimedia cultural magazine – and its director, Nicola Lagioia, and some local associations (UnTerritorio ETS, Cultural Association Magog, Ass. Arvangia) committed to promoting and enhancing the territory.

Resté is theater, , indeed the local theater companies – starting from a narrative specially created for the initiative by Nicola Lagioia and by Lucy – will accompany visitors in these "opening" and knowledge paths of the places during certain times of the year through short performances, presentations, and other forms of entertainment.

Resté is a game that will continue throughout the year starting from the first theatrical stage and will allow visitors to discover the territory, learning about its peculiarities and listening to its stories, having fun and experiencing firsthand. A playful experience aimed at a broad audience: from families with children to hikers of all ages, both Italian and foreign (languages it-eng).

Count
Rangone

The three settlements have a thousand-year history, located along the road that, passing over the ridge from Alba, moves towards the Alta Langa and then towards the sea. Their history, often turbulent, has roots in prehistory, extends to the first Roman settlements, and finally, reaches the medieval period. In the following decades, noble families will come to mark the territory.

Starting from the 18th century

The family of the Counts of Rangone from Montelupo began to emerge as a key figure in controlling the territory between Diano d'Alba, Montelupo Albese, and Rodello. Among these figures, Count Carlo Francesco Rangone (1721-1788), a designer, intellectual, and prominent figure in the civic life of Alba, was the architect of numerous significant works in the area.

Local Nobility

The Rangone family stands out as a distinguished lineage in the Albese region, active in political and social life as well as in cultural affairs. Indeed, the Rangones, in collaboration with other noble families, purchased and brought renown to the Civic Theater of Alba, and in 1783, during the visit of the Savoys, they were among the first to be invited to the royal banquet.

Architecture

The figure of Count Francesco is central to the proposal for enhancement, particularly regarding architectures associated with him. These are late Baroque architectures, notable for their brick facades, simple and symmetrical features that lose their sinuosity in favor of more rigorous lines and architectural elements that reflect classical influences, foreshadowing the Neoclassical age.
